Class 1 is a mixed Reception/year 1 class.
Staff recognise early childhood as a very important stage of life with its own particular needs, and our aim is to give young children the best possible start to their school life. Our curriculum is tailored to suit the needs of children across the age group.
We use the Letters and Sounds Teaching Programme to teach Phonics, using the Jolly Phonics multi-sensory approach, and the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme.
We provide a hands-on experience for the pupils in our care. Activities include cooking, gardening, plenty of exercise and time spent in the fresh air.
We are lucky enough to have a number of support staff and volunteers who provide invaluable help.
Help is also given by older children who act as 'buddies' to the younger children when they first join our school.
The school OFSTED report (2014) stated that, in the Foundation Stage, 'staff promote warm relationships and secure the children's well-being....they ensure children enjoy school and learn well.........Leaders have created a stimulating, well-resourced indoor and outdoor environment which has a positive impact on children's learning.'
Below you can see long term planning. The topics for the remaining terms will be dependent on the children's interests.
