Welcome to the Bumblebees class!
Have a look at some of the exciting things we have been doing in our mixed Reception/Year 1 class.
Sandwiches fit for a Queen
Preparations for our royal tea party began today! We decided that the Queen would eat a healthy, balanced diet so we investigated which sandwiches had something from every food group.
We are loving our 'Down at the palace' topic! This week we designed, made and evaluated our own London landmarks.
Our new storytelling area
To celebrate our new storytelling area being installed, we enjoyed hot chocolate and marshmallows whilst listening to some of our favourite stories.
Today was an extra special Forest School day because our grown ups came to join us!
Investigating animal poo!
We were very shocked when we came into the classroom after lunch and found animal poo on the tables! Miss Dodd wasn't sure which animals they belonged to so we had to see if they had bones, plants or both. We then used this information to decide if the animal was a herbivore, carnivore and omnivore.
Making Australian Anzac biscuits
Our class bear, Barnaby, has been busy travelling the world! Today we found out that he was in Australia and had been eating lots of Anzac biscuits. We weren't sure what these tasted like so we decided to make some.
Pizza Express Visit - 02.11.17
As part of their Around the World topic, the Bumblebees went on a trip to Pizza Express in Grantham. They learnt all about the ingredients needed for a pizza and then followed the pizzaiola's instructions to make their own. When back at school, the children tried their pizza and were very impressed with their efforts.
We were very surprised when we had a letter from Barnaby Bear in our register the next day! He told us that he now wanted to go and explore Europe, in particular Italy, so he could make pizza just like we did. We decided that we would need to learn how to write instructions to send some to Barnaby Bear.
Some of the Bumblebees class had started to notice that is was getting a little colder and the environment was starting to change. We used our senses and went on an Autumn walk around Osbournby.
African animals on 'Paint'.
This week something very exciting happened! Barnaby Bear sent the Bumblebees a letter all the way from Africa. He wondered which animals he would see whilst in Africa so as a class we did some research. The children then painted a picture of an animal they thought Barnaby might see using the 'Paint' software on the laptops.
Around the world - Making continents
Our topic this term is 'Around the World'. We used natural resources to make the different continents in the world.
